For Buyers

How to buy auto parts on WParts: registration, search by VIN and part number, ordering, tracking and reviews.

Questions in this section

How do I register as a buyer?

Choose Create account and enter an email address you can access, a username, and a unique password. Complete the email verification message before relying on the account for an order. If the message does not arrive, check spam, confirm the address for typing errors, and request a new message only after the first delivery window has passed. Use your own contact details so sellers can reach you about fulfillment. After signing in, review your profile and delivery information before checkout. Never share your password or a one-time verification code with a seller. Registration is separate from applying for seller status; a buyer account can search, create part requests, place orders, follow tracking, and leave reviews.

How can I search for parts?

Start with the most specific identifier available. The number printed, stamped, or labeled on the original part is usually more reliable than a broad product name. Search that number with and without spaces or punctuation, then compare manufacturer, condition, photos, connectors, dimensions, side, and revision. If you do not know the number, use your VIN and vehicle details to research it with the WParts AI Assistant, a manufacturer catalog, or a qualified parts professional. A VIN identifies the vehicle, but it does not by itself guarantee that every suggested listing fits. Before ordering, ask the seller to confirm the exact listing and disclose substitutions or cross-reference numbers. Keep the VIN private where possible and share only the details needed for fitment.

How do I use WParts AI Assistant?

Start a new assistant chat and enter the vehicle VIN carefully, preferably by copying it from the dashboard, door label, registration, or insurance record. Confirm that the decoded make, model, year, engine, and market match your vehicle before continuing. Describe the part, its location, symptoms, and whether you need the left or right side. When an assembly diagram is available, select the relevant callout to identify candidate part numbers and related pieces. Treat the result as research, not a fitment promise. Compare the number and visible features with the removed part, then ask the listing seller to confirm. Do not post ownership documents or unrelated personal data in the chat.

How do I place an order?

Open the listing and verify the part number, condition, quantity, seller, and fitment evidence before adding it to the cart. Review photos and notes for defects, included accessories, core requirements, and whether the item is new, used, or remanufactured. At checkout, enter a complete shipping address and confirm the available payment and delivery terms supplied for that seller. Review every amount and the order summary before submission. After placing the order, keep communication in the order thread and watch the status for acceptance, dispatch, or a request for clarification. An order does not make an uncertain part compatible, so resolve number, connector, side, and revision questions before paying.

Where do I track my order?

Sign in and open Profile, then Orders. Select the order to see its current marketplace status, seller messages, carrier name, and tracking number when the seller has added one. A tracking number may appear before the carrier's first physical scan, and cross-border scans can pause during customs or a handoff. Compare the latest event with the seller's handling estimate and promised service before reporting a delay. If the number is invalid, the address is wrong, or the shipment has not moved beyond a reasonable window, message the seller in that order thread. Keep screenshots and delivery notices, but do not publish your full address or tracking number in a public review.

What should I do if an item did not arrive or is not as described?

Open Profile, choose Orders, select the affected order, and contact the seller in its message thread. For a missing shipment, include the latest tracking event, delivery notice, and a short timeline. Check the address, household, reception area, and carrier instructions without posting private details publicly. For damage or a materially different item, photograph the outer package, shipping label, internal packing, part number, connectors, and problem before installation or modification. Keep the part and packing materials while the seller investigates. If the order is still pending, use the available cancellation request. Refund, replacement, return shipping, and carrier claims depend on the seller's terms and applicable law. After completion, you may leave an accurate review and attach a complaint to the review.

Why can't I start more new chats?

WParts limits the number of new conversations an account can start within a rolling 24-hour period to reduce spam and unsolicited bulk messages. Reaching the limit does not remove existing conversations: you can continue messaging sellers connected to your orders and return to other active threads. Wait for the rolling window to release capacity instead of creating duplicate accounts or sending the same request to unrelated sellers. To use new chats efficiently, search by an exact part number, read the listing, and send one message containing the vehicle, required part, condition preference, destination, and specific question. For broad sourcing, create a part request so relevant sellers can respond through the intended workflow.

Can I create a part request?

Yes. Sign in, open Profile, choose Part Requests, and select New. Add the vehicle make and model, the part name, and every known original or cross-reference number. A VIN is optional; if you include it, verify every character and avoid attaching documents that expose unrelated personal data. Describe the side, position, engine, trim, connector, dimensions, condition preference, and destination when those details affect the match. Clear photos of the old part, label, plug, mounting points, and damage can help. Relevant sellers are notified and may send offers. Compare each offer with your identifiers and ask what is included before ordering; an offer is still subject to your final fitment check.

How do I leave a review?

After the order is completed, sign in, open Profile, choose Orders, and select the review action for that order. Rate the transaction and describe facts that would help another buyer: whether the part matched the listing, how it was packed, whether dispatch and delivery matched the stated timeline, and how the seller handled questions. Separate carrier delays from the seller's actions when possible. Do not include phone numbers, addresses, tracking numbers, payment details, threats, or claims you cannot support. If there was a problem, contact the seller in the order thread first and preserve photos and messages. A concise, specific review is more useful than a general accusation, and you may attach a complaint through the available review workflow.
